# Schedule and edit

> Use explicit time zones and preserve the fields you do not change.

Scheduling requires both `posts-write` and `posts-publish`. Use an ISO 8601 timestamp with `Z` or an explicit offset; choose a future time.

## Schedule a new post

```bash theme={null}
postinger posts create --content "Tomorrow's update" \
  --account ACCOUNT_ID --media MEDIA_ID \
  --scheduled-at '2026-12-01T10:00:00+03:00' \
  --idempotency-key scheduled-update-001
```

`2026-12-01T10:00:00+03:00` is 07:00 UTC. A value such as `2026-12-01T10:00` has no offset and is rejected by the public API.

## Schedule an existing draft

Save the following as `patch.json`:

```json theme={null}
{ "scheduledAt": "2026-12-01T10:00:00+03:00" }
```

```bash theme={null}
postinger posts update POST_ID --file patch.json
```

The HTTP equivalent is `PATCH /posts/POST_ID`; MCP uses `update_post` with `{postId, patch}`. Omitted fields are preserved. Supplying `targets` or `mediaIds` replaces that collection.

## Remove a schedule

```json theme={null}
{ "scheduledAt": null }
```

Apply this patch to an editable scheduled post to return it to draft. Editing a scheduled post still requires publishing permission. Posts that have started publication can be locked against edits; refresh the post after a conflict.

MCP's `schedule_post` creates a new post. Use `update_post` when changing an existing draft.
